Edward Charles Kneip was born in New York City on March 31, 1892. When he was an adult, he was living in Scotia.
On April 5, 1917, Edward enlisted in the Aviation Corps. He sailed for France on June 6, 1917, and was assigned to one of the coastal naval air stations. After receiving a promotion to the position of official photographer, he informed his parents by letter. Edward was killed when his plane crashed near Le Croisic, France, on July 1, 1918. He is buried in St. Nazaire Cemetery in France.
