Edward Charles Kneip, the son of Charles and Henrietta (Fulkman) Kneip, was born on March 31, 1892, in New York City. When he was an adult, he was residing in Scotia.
On April 5, 1917, Edward enlisted in the Aviation Corps. He held the rank of Machine Mate First Class. He sailed for France on June 6, 1917, and was assigned to one of the coastal naval air stations. After receiving a promotion to the position of official photographer, Edward informed his parents by letter. Edward lost his life when his plane crashed near Le Croisic, France, on July 1, 1918. He is buried in St. Nazaire Cemetery, France.
