World War II (1939-1945)

Edward Paul McCarthy was born in Schenectady, New York, on November 20, 1924. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and graduated from Nott Terrace High School, where he was a member of the cross-country and track teams.

On December 12, 1942, Edward enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed his basic training at Parris Island in South Carolina before being shipped overseas in October 1943. Paul was a private first class serving with Company G, 22nd Marines. Edward died on the first day of the Battle of Guam, July 21, 1944. He is buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, New York.
