Francesco (Frank) Barone, the son of Domenico and Rosina (Costanzo) Barone, was born on April 12, 1924, in Schenectady, New York. In 1943, he received his diploma from Mont Pleasant High School.
On July 10, 1943, Francesco enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private and served with the 519th Port Battalion. On June 10, 1944, Francesco was on board the Liberty Ship SS Charles Morgan when a German plane bombed the ship, causing it to sink off the coast of Utah Beach in Normandy, France. He is remembered at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, France.
