Frank Joseph Demarest, the son of Edson and Annie (Brothers) Demarest, was born on November 19, 1894, in Gloversville, New York. By 1912, he was residing in Scotia, New York, with his family. He was an employee of General Electric.

On July 29, 1918, Frank enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private and served with Company G, 71st Infantry Division. While serving at Camp Meade in Maryland, Frank passed away from pneumonia. Two months before Frank passed away, his sister Helen and brother Edson were killed when the truck they were riding in was hit by a mail train at the Grovelands Crossing in Scotia, New York. Helen was twelve years old and Edson was eighteen. Frank is buried alongside his siblings in the Moss Street Cemetery, Hudson Falls, New York.
