Frank Joseph Demarest was born in Gloversville, New York, on November 19, 1894. By 1912, he was living in the village of Scotia in Schenectady County with his family. Before entering the military, he worked for General Electric.
On July 29, 1918, Frank enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private serving with Company G, 71st Infantry Division. While serving at Camp Meade in Maryland, Frank died from pneumonia. Two months before he died, his sister Helen and brother Edson were killed when the truck they were riding in was hit by a mail train at the Grovelands Crossing in Scotia, New York. Helen was twelve years old, and Edson was eighteen. Frank is buried alongside his siblings in the Moss Street Cemetery in Hudson Falls, New York.
