Frank Vernacchio, the son of Antonio and Assunta Vernacchio, was born on September 8, 1920, in Italy.  He immigrated to the United States with his parents at a young age. Before joining the military, he worked for General Electric.

On April 14, 1944, Frank enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Dix in New Jersey. He was a Private First Class in the 319th Infantry Regiment of the 80th Infantry Division. On January 18, 1945, Frank was killed during the Battle of the Bulge. He is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
