World War II (1939-1945)

Frank Vernacchio was born in Italy, on September 8, 1920. He immigrated to the United States with his parents at a young age, and their final destination was Schenectady. Before entering the military, he worked for General Electric.

On April 14, 1944, Frank enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Dix in New Jersey. He was a private first class serving with the 319th Infantry Regiment of the 80th Infantry Division. On January 18, 1945, Frank was killed during the Battle of the Bulge. He is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
