Frederick T. Osbonlighter, the son of Raymond and Emma (Kuhlkin) Osbonlighter, was born on June 16, 1915, in Albany, New York. By 1930, he had moved to Altamont, New York, and by 1940, he had moved to Schenectady. He attended Altamont High School and participated in the Helderberg Bowling League. Prior to the service, Frederick worked in the restaurant business with his father.
In October 1940, Frederick enlisted in the United States Army and began his training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. He was a Sergeant in the Headquarters Detachment, 2nd Battalion, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. Frederick was transferred overseas in September 1941 and was injured at the Battle of Saipan in July 1944. Frederick was sent back into action after being healed, and he was killed on April 29, 1945, during the Battle of Okinawa. He is buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Altamont, New York.
