Gale Kistler Millett, the son of Omer and Verna (Gale) Millett, was born on February 27, 1915, in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. He was living in Ravena, New York, by 1920, and in Scotia, New York, by 1940. He earned his bachelor's degree in art at Defiance College in Ohio, taught for a year, and then began working for the General Electric before joining the military. 

In November 1943, Gale enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private and served with Company A, 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division. On July 6, 1944, Gale was killed in combat in Normandy, France. He is buried in the Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore, New York.
