George John Swiegart was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 27, 1890. His World War I draft card states that he was born on September 27, 1890, however his gravestone states that he was born on September 21, 1891. After 1910, George resided in the city of Schenectady. Before joining the service, he graduated from Albany Business College and worked as a cost accountant for General Electric. 

On September 21, 1917, George enlisted in the United States Army. He was assigned to the 157th Depot Brigade and held the rank of Corporal. On June 15, 1918, he died of appendicitis while stationed at Camp Gordon, Georgia. George is buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Maspeth, Queens County, New York.
