Whitmyre

Gordon Lynn Whitmyre, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Whitmyre, was born on January 12, 1919, in Schenectady, New York.  He grew up in Scotia, New York, and graduated in 1937 from Scotia Glenville High School. Gordon received his bachelor of science in forestry from the University of New Hampshire. 

On July 14, 1941, Gordon enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps.  He was a flight instructor at Waco Army Flying Field in Texas and held the rank of First Lieutenant.  Gordon was on a cross-country training flight on November 11, 1942, when his plane crashed near Palestine, Texas.
