Henry Anthony Chociej, the son of Joseph and Sophia Chociej, was born on June 5, 1922, in Schenectady, New York. For the Schenectady City Band and the Polish American Boys Rhythm Band, he played the accordion. Henry attended Mont Pleasant High School and worked for General Electric after graduating.

In August 1942, Henry enlisted in the United States Navy. He completed his training in the Great Lakes Training Center in Illinois and held the rank of Aviation Radioman Second Class. He was killed when two Liberator bombers collided in flight close to the naval air station at Hutchinson, Kansas. He is buried in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
