Henry R. Krzyzak, the son of Pawel and Aniela Krzyzak, was born on November 15, 1916, in Schenectady, New York. He attended Oneida Junior High School and played amateur baseball for the city with his twin brother Theodore. Before joining the military, Henry worked for the American Locomotive Company. 

On April 16, 1942, Henry enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant and served with the 532nd Bomber Squadron, 381st Bomber Group, Heavy. On a B-17 G Flying Fortress, Henry was a right waist gunner. On February 22, 1944, while on a mission to Oscherleben, Germany, his B-17 was shot down by German aircraft and crashed near Bielefeld, Germany. Six crew members were killed. Henry is buried at the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Netherlands.
