Ira Gerald Baker was born in Cobleskill, New York, on August 4, 1919. By 1930, he was living in Schenectady, New York. After graduating from vocational high school, he worked for the Buell and MacDonald furniture company.
On January 24, 1941, Ira enlisted in the United States Army. He was a corporal serving with Battery C, 249th Field Artillery Battalion. He was killed in action on June 18, 1944, during the Battle of Saipan. He is buried in the World War ll veterans plot at Vale Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
