Ira Gerald Baker, the son of Glean and Edith (Bowmaker) Baker, was born on August 4, 1919, in Cobleskill, New York. He was living in Schenectady by the 1930’s. Ira graduated from vocational high school and worked for the Buell and MacDonald Furniture Company.

On January 24, 1941, Ira enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Corporal and served with Battery C, 104th Field Artillery Battalion, 27th Infantry Division. Ira was killed in action on June 18, 1944, during the Battle of Saipan. He is buried in the World War ll veterans plot at Vale Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
