James Edward Vetal, the son of James and Grace Vetal, was born on November 5, 1901, in Bennington, Vermont. He was residing in Schenectady with his family after 1910.
In December 1918, James enlisted in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the Naval Training Center at Pelham Bay, New York. He was diagnosed with pneumonia two weeks after arrival and died on January 4, 1919. He was only seventeen at the time. He is buried in the Park Lawn Cemetery, Bennington, Vermont.
