James Stanley Buzanowski was born in Schenectady, New York, on May 20, 1914. By the time he was in World War II, he was residing in the Village of Scotia in Schenectady County, although his 1940 Draft card listed him as a resident of Ballston Spa, Saratoga County, New York.
On January 7, 1941, James enlisted in the United States Army and began his training at Fort Dix in New Jersey. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division. James went overseas in April 1944, and on October 11, 1944, was killed in combat in France. He is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
