James W. Allen, the son of Thomas and Minnie (Weaver) Allen, was born in February 1897 in Schenectady, New York. He was an employee of General Electric.
James enlisted in the United States Army on August 24, 1916, and was sent overseas on October 27, 1917, aboard the SS Tunisian. He held the rank of Corporal and served with Company C, 165th Infantry Regiment. On August 1, 1918, James passed away after being gassed during the Battle of Chateau Thierry in France. He is buried in the Fisher Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
