World War I (1914-1918)

James W. Allen was born in Schenectady, New York, in February 1897. Before entering the military, he worked for General Electric. 

On August 24, 1916, James enlisted in the United States Army. He was sent overseas on October 27, 1917, aboard the US Army troopship SS Tunisian. He was a corporal serving with Company C, 69th US Infantry, Rainbow Division. On August 1, 1918, James died from wounds received during the Battle of Chateau-Thierry, France. He is buried in the Fisher Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
