John Anthony Wright was born in Schenectady, New York, on January 3, 1921. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and was a student at Central Park Junior High and Nott Terrace High School, where he competed on the basketball and track teams and graduated in 1940.
On December 29, 1941, John enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a first lieutenant serving with the 17th Bomb Squadron, 27th Bomb Group. John was declared dead while missing on October 3, 1943. He is remembered at the Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie, New York.
