John Doherty Schuyler Jr., the son of John and Helen (Doherty) Schuyler, was born on September 28, 1914 in Hagaman, New York. By 1920, he had relocated to Schenectady. He was a Mont Pleasant High School and Villanova University graduate. John worked for General Electric.

In April, 1942, John enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Sergeant and served with the 68th Tank Battalion, 6th Armored Division. On January 8, 1945, John went missing during the Battle of the Bulge. He is remembered at the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial, Belgium.
