World War II (1939-1945)

John James Quinlan was born in Schenectady, New York, on May 2, 1917. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and graduated from Nott Terrace High School and Union College. While studying at Union College, he was a member of the glee club, chorus, football team, and track team. 

In January, 1941, John enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a second lieutenant serving with the 339th Bomber Squadron, 96th Bomber Group. On April 9, 1944, during a bombing mission, the B-17G he was aboard was shot down by a German aircraft and crashed in Denmark. He is remembered at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie, New York.
