John John Matula was born in Schenectady, New York, on June 7, 1914. He grew up in the city of Schenectady on Park Street, attended neighborhood schools, and worked for General Electric before entering the military.
In March 1941, John enlisted in the United States Army, and in December 1943, he was transferred to the European Theater. He was a private first class serving with the 28th Infantry Division. On July 13, 1944, John was killed in battle in France. He is buried in Sts. Cyril and Method Cemetery in Rotterdam, New York.
