World War II (1939-1945) & Korean War (1950-1953)

John Joseph Stempkowski was born in Schenectady, New York, on May 23, 1916. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. 

John fought in World War II before serving in the Korean War. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, he was serving in the European theater.

John re-enlisted in the United States Army on February 8, 1949. He was a first lieutenant with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On September 5, 1950, John died from injuries sustained during the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
