John William Kuder, the son of August and Amelia (Franzen) Kuder, was born on May 3, 1920, in Schenectady, New York. He was a graduate of Vocational High School and worked for General Electric. 

On October 18, 1940, John enlisted in the United States Army and underwent basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. He held the rank of Technical Sergeant and served with Company F, 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. John was sent to Hawaii in March 1942 and stayed there until he was transferred to Saipan. John was critically injured during the Battle of Saipan on July 6, 1944. After healing, he was sent to the Battle of Okinawa, where he was wounded again and died on April 26, 1945. John is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Schenectady.
