World War II (1939-1945)

Joseph P. Nettleton was born in the town of Rotterdam in Schenectady County, New York, on November 25, 1915. He grew up in the town of Rotterdam on Helderberg Avenue, was a student at Draper High School, and was a junior scout leader in Troop 32 of the Boy Scouts. Before entering the military, he worked as a hospital attendant.

On May 5, 1941, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army. He was a sergeant serving with Company B, 56th Signal Battalion. Joseph died in battle on Omaha Beach in France on June 11, 1944.  He is buried in the Fisher Cemetery in Rotterdam, New York.
