Louis J. Leva, the son of Joseph and Filomena Leva, was born on June 26, 1920, in Schenectady, New York. He was a cross country team member and a Nott Terrace High School graduate. Louis was a standout runner at Nott Terrace High School, and the Schenectady Gazette named him the New Distance Sensation. Before enlisting in the military, he worked for General Electric.

On May 4, 1942, Louis enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Corporal and served with Company M, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. Louis passed away on August 3, 1944 in France from wounds he sustained during combat. He is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
