Louis Vincent Slowek, the son of Vicenty and Julia (Swatkowska) Slowek, was born on April 5, 1913, in Schenectady, New York. Before joining the military, he graduated from Nott Terrace High School and worked for the General Electric Company in the industrial control department.

On February 1, 1944, Louis enlisted in the United States Army. Before being shipped overseas in December 1944, he trained in Alabama, North Carolina, Maryland, and California, Louis held the rank of Private and served with Battery C, 126th Field Artillery Battalion. On May 15, 1945, Louis was killed in combat during the Battle of Luzon. He is buried in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
