Mario Leo Riggi, the son of Angelo and Rose (Ponzillo) Riggi, was born on December 31, 1924, in Schenectady, New York. He worked for the Schenectady Army Service Forces Depot and went to Nott Terrace High School.

On March 24, 1943, Mario enlisted in the United States Army. He underwent his basic training at Camp Wolters in Texas. He held the rank of Private and served with Company F, 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. On December 15, 1943, Mario was killed in battle in Italy. He is buried in St. Anthony Cemetery, Glenville, New York.
