Matthias (Mike) Kazda was born in Rotterdam, New York, on June 16, 1917. He grew up in the town of Rotterdam on Adams Street in Schenectady County. Before entering the military, he worked for General Electric.
In April 1942, Matthias enlisted in the United States Army. He was a private first class serving with the 26th Infantry Regiment, 11th Infantry Division. On April 12, 1945, Matthias died from wounds he received in Germany. He is buried in Vale Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
