Norbert G. Filburn, the son of George and Lucy (Krawczeski) Filburn, was born on October 28, 1925, in Herkimer, County. By 1930, he had moved to Rotterdam. He graduated from Draper High School a month before he enlisted.

On March 11, 1944, Norbert enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private First Class and was part of the 355th Infantry Regiment, 89th Infantry Division. Norbert was a member of General Patton's third army. In a newsreel, Norbert could be seen standing on a tank. On May 4, 1945, in Germany, Norbert was killed in action. He is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Netherlands.
