World War II (1939-1945)

Oscar R. Ritter was born in Schenectady, New York, on March 6, 1921. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1941. Before entering the military, he worked for Webster Motor Sales and General Electric.

In October 1942, Oscar enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey. After his training, he was stationed in Virginia and Florida before being sent overseas. He was a technician fifth-grade serving with the 74th Signal Corps. On September 9, 1943, just two and a half hours after his signal corps group landed at the Salerno beachhead, Oscar was killed. He is buried in Evergreen Memorial Park in Colonie, New York.
