Oswald "Buster" Hudson, the son of John and Sarah (Reeves) Hudson, was born on January 5, 1895, in Schenectady, New York. He was employed as a clerk before he enlisted in the military. 

On February 23, 1918, Oswald enlisted in the United States Army. He had his basic training at Camp Devens, New York, and was later transferred to Camp Upton, New York. Oswald was a Private in Company F of the 305th Infantry Regiment. On the early morning of April 15, 1918, while the men were on their way to be transferred overseas on board the ship Cedric, the train carrying all of the troops derailed. Father Clarence Murphy was tending to Oswald when he died on the way to the hospital. He is buried in Park View Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
