Peter DeLong was 37 years old when he enlisted in the Union Army on November 6, 1861, and was mustered in on November 9, 1861. He served with the 91st New York Infantry, Company G, and held the rank of Private. Peter was wounded in action on June 14, 1863, during the siege of Port Hudson (May 22, 1863 - July 9, 1863). He re-enlisted as a veteran on January 1, 1864. Peter was killed in action on April 1, 1865, during the Battle of Gravelly Run. He is buried in the Poplar Grove National Cemetery, Virginia.
