Raymond Francis Sexton, the son of Francis and Elizabeth (Shovah) Sexton, was born on March 25, 1914, in Whitehall, New York. By the 1920 census, he was living in Schenectady, New York. He attended Vocational High School and worked for the Planter Peanut Company. Raymond was well-known in the area's musical circles and had his own band.

Raymond enlisted in the United States Army in February 1941 and completed basic training in Dallas, Texas. He was a Technician Fifth Grade in the 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division. In August 1942, he was shipped overseas. Raymond died of wounds sustained during the Battle of Saipan on August 9, 1944. He is buried in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Colonie, New York.
