Richard Eugene Purzycki, the son of William and Catherine (Morawska) Purzycki, was born on November 21, 1924, in Schenectady, New York. Prior to joining the service, he worked for General Electric and attended local schools.
On March 16, 1944, Richard enlisted in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He completed his training at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and Fort Lewis, Washington. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with Company A, Engineers. Richard died in Japan on November 19, 1945. He is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
