World War II (1939-1945)

Robert Abbott Peabody was born in Manhattan, New York, on July 10, 1923. By 1930, he was living in the city of Schenectady. He attended Central Park Junior High School, graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1940, and later attended St. Lawrence College in Canton, New York, where he was a member of the varsity ski team.

In March 1943, Robert enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He underwent training in Biloxi, Mississippi, and Nashville, Tennessee. He was a second lieutenant serving with the 565th Bomb Squadron, 389th Bomb Group. On January 31, 1945, severe weather forced the recall of Robert and his crew's mission to Brunswick, Germany. On their return, the B-24J crashed near Scarborough, England, with the cause unknown. He is remembered at the Oakdale Cemetery in Massachusetts.

"Keep a little fire burning; however small, however hidden."

~Cormac McCarthy

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

For the Fallen
