Robert Clarendon Maxon, the son of Adelbert and Bertha (Phillips) Maxon, was born on March 9, 1909, in Berlin, New York. He was residing in Schenectady in 1915, but between 1920 and 1930, he moved to Berlin, New York, before returning to Schenectady by 1931. He was a track star while he was a student at Union College. Robert received his medical degree from Columbia University.

On August 13, 1942, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a flight surgeon and held the rank of First Lieutenant. Robert was sent to a San Diego, California, naval hospital. He passed away very suddenly on April 28, 1944, just before being deployed overseas. He has a ballpark named after him, and his office on Nott Street in Schenectady is still standing. Robert is buried in the Center Berlin Baptist Cemetery, Berlin, New York.
