Robert D. France, the son of Adelbert and Margaret France, was born on January 18, 1925, in Scriba, Oswego, New York. He moved to Schenectady after 1940 and worked for the T.C. Company. Robert relocated to Syracuse and worked for a General Electric Plant before going for active duty. 

On March 18, 1943, Robert enlisted in the United States Army. He went through basic training at Camp Wolters in Texas. He was a Staff Sergeant in the 143rd Infantry Regiment of the 36th Infantry Division. Robert served in North Africa and Italy before being killed in combat on October 8, 1944, in France.  He is buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Oswego, New York.
