Robert William Mott, the son of Grover and Edith (Nichols) Mott, was born on May 8, 1922, in Duanesburg, New York. Before entering the service, he attended Draper High School and worked for the General Electric Company.

Robert enlisted in the United States Army in October 1942 and attended his basic training in South Carolina. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant and served with Company M, 128th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry Division. In February 1943, he was sent overseas to oversee heavy artillery repair. On August 6, 1944, while attempting to rescue a wounded fellow soldier, Robert was killed by enemy machine gun fire in New Guinea. He is buried in Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie, New York.
