Roy Augustus Schuyler, the son of Andrew and Sarah (Sterling) Schuyler, was born on April 15, 1892, in Montgomery County. By 1910, he had moved to the city of Schenectady. He worked for General Electric and attended Union College.

On August 15, 1917, Roy enlisted in the United States Army and began his training at Camp Dix in New Jersey. He held the rank of First Lieutenant and served with the 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Infantry Division. On September 26, 1918, Roy was killed in battle at Bois de Grand Fontaine, France. He is buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery and Memorial, France.
