World War II (1939-1945)

Ruskin Edward Harppinger was born in Schenectady, New York, on May 7, 1911. By 1930, he lived in Bolton Landing, located in Warren County, New York, and had been attending schools in that area. Before entering the military, he worked as an optician for his brother-in-law in Troy, New York.

On March 31, 1943, Ruskin enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Camp Cook in California. He was a private serving with Company A, 127th Infantry Regiment. He was deployed to the Pacific on December 20, 1943, and saw combat in New Guinea and the Philippines. On December 1, 1944, he died from his wounds during the Battle of Leyte. He is buried at the Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville, New York.
