Spiros John Markos was born on December 20, 1929, in Schenectady, New York. When he was four years old, he and his parents relocated to Greece. On February 5, 1947, he returned to Schenectady alone. He worked for the Mont Pleasant Lunch.

Spiros enlisted in the United States Army and held the rank of Corporal. He was working as a cook in Okinawa when he was diagnosed with leukemia; he passed away on February 28, 1953, at the Murphy Army Hospital in Waltham, Massachusetts. Spiros is buried in the Park View Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
