Thomas Nemi was born in Arnara, Italy on March 22, 1887. Arnara is in the Italian region Lazio, in the province of Frosinone. Thomas arrived in the United States when he was about twenty years old aboard the USS Prinzess Irene, eventually renamed the USS Pocahontas. On April 12, 1907, he arrived in the United States and made his way to Schenectady. He worked for the American Locomotive Company before joining the army.

On July 17, 1917, Thomas enlisted in the United States Army. He was a Private First Class in Company I, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On July 1, 1918, Thomas was killed in battle in France. He is buried in the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial, France.
