Vincent D. Sapone, the son of Vito and Jennie Sapone, was born on September 2, 1920, in New Jersey. By 1930, he and his family had settled in Schenectady. Before entering the service, he graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and worked for the General Electric Company.
On July 31, 1942, Vincent enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant and served with the 350th Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group. On October 8, 1943, Vincent was killed in combat in the European Theater. He is buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
