Walter Edward Lowicki was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, on July 2, 1898. Before entering the military, he and his family were living in the city of Schenectady.
On February 16, 1918, Walter enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. On April 9, 1918, he was sent overseas aboard the U.S. Army troopship USS Covington. He was a private serving with Company M, 6th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division. On October 14, 1918, Walter was killed in combat during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. He is buried in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial in France.
