Walter Eugene Bond Jr. was born in Oakfield, New York, on March 13, 1917. After earning a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Rochester, he relocated to Schenectady, where he worked for General Electric in the accounting division.
In September 1943, Walter enlisted in the United States Army. He held the rank of Private First Class and served with the 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. During the allied invasion of Rome on June 4, 1944, Walter was killed in action. He is buried in the Rome American Cemetery and Memorial, Italy.
