Walter John Abramski, the son of John and Pauline (Kierzinski) Abramski, was born on December 14, 1917, in Jersey City, New Jersey. Before joining the military, he was a carpenter's apprentice. Walter moved to Schenectady after marrying his wife, who was born and raised there.

In July 1941, Walter enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, before being transferred overseas in November 1942. Walter held the rank of Sergeant and served with the 58th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. On December 19, 1944, Walter was killed during the Battle of the Bulge. He is buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial, Belgium.
