William Edward Shedrick Jr., the son of William and Mary (Madigan) Shedrick, was born on June 1, 1914, in Schenectady, New York. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1932 and attended the General Electric apprentice school.

William enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942. He held the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. William took part in an African Convoy, and the ship he was aboard was attacked and damaged, but he returned safely to the United States. William died on August 11, 1943, at the Mare Island Naval Base in California, from sepsis and heart failure caused by surgery for a kinked ureter. He is buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, New York.
