William Edward Trombley was born in Schenectady, New York, on March 5, 1920. He grew up in the city of Schenectady and graduated from St. Columba's High School in 1937. After high school, he attended Siena College in Loudonville, New York, graduating in 1941. Before entering the military, he worked for General Electric.
In July 1942, William enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He underwent military training at Mitchel Field in New York, and Fort Myer in Florida. On January 12, 1943, at King City, California, William died in an airplane accident. He is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
