William J. Coons, the son of George and Clara Coons, was born on May 23, 1922, in Schenectady, New York. He worked for the Schenectady Army Service Forces Depot and went to Mont Pleasant High School.
On November 29, 1942, William enlisted in the United States Army and was trained in Texas at Camp Bowie, Camp Hood, and Camp Maxey. He held the rank of Technician Fifth Grade and served with the 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division. On February 3, 1945, William was killed in combat in France. He is buried in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Colonie, New York.
