William Lester Lasher, the son of James and Emma (Hudson) Lasher, was born on July 24, 1894, in Cossayuna, New York. By 1900, he had moved to Schenectady County. Before joining the army, he worked as a painter for R.W. Safford.

On May 17, 1918, William enlisted in the United States Army. He was a Private assigned to the Ship Repair Shop Unit 301. On September 27, 1918, William died of pneumonia in New Jersey. He is buried in the Fisher Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York.
