World War II (1939-1945)

William Manley Dexter was born in Utica, New York, on March 17, 1920. By 1922, he was living in the city of Schenectady. He belonged to the Boy Scouts troop 77 and earned his Eagle Scout. In 1937, he graduated from Mont Pleasant High School, where he was on their cross-country team, and after graduation, he spent two years at the University of Michigan, where he competed on the boxing team. Before entering the military, he worked briefly for General Electric.

On June 7, 1942, William enlisted in the United States Marine Corps' aviation branch. He was a first lieutenant serving with the UMSB 151-MAG 13. On May 26, 1943, he died from wounds sustained during battle in the South Pacific. He is buried in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Colonie, New York.
